Nick Foreman, graduate student in the School of Kinesiology and research assistant in the Human and Sport Performance Laboratory (HSPL), has published a study entitled, “Assessment of a Treadmill Speed Incline Conversion Chart: A Validation Study“, in the International Journal of Sport Physiology and Performance.

The study, which was funded by a UROP grant, examined a chart used to convert flat to equivalent incline running speeds on a treadmill. It found that while reliable at lower levels, the suggested speeds led to an increase in oxygen use and other measures of effort at higher inclines.

Co-authors were Christopher Lundstrom, PhD, sport and exercise science lecturer and HSPL director, and Emma Lee, a Ph.D. alum, and current post-doc in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.
